The $28

So I was on IG a few days ago and stumbled across a very interesting post......

I reposted to my own social media to gather responses.... And I was slightly shocked.
With the average millennial being so creative (and broke, lets be honest..we are broke ), I was looking for answers that were a little well.....different than what I got...Especially after the all posts about the '$200 date' and what all a woman would have to do to receive a $200 date.....

Now personally I have been on dates on the $100-200 range and some on the $20-40 range, (BIG difference I know) and contrary to popular belief I have had more fun on cheaper dates that have not required me to leave the comfort of my kicks and leggings .........

So since I LOVE a challenge (and saving some coins), I have created a list with links of $28 or less dates to take  Bae on this spring/summer 17.... You will thank me later..

  1. Groupon (one of my favorite sites ever) has a comedy show for two, for $15.... If the comic is funny or not, you can always bond over how good (or bad) this guys is and  still have $13 left over to blow....
  2. One of my favorite places in Cleveland is the zoo ,and for $13.25 per person (and FREE on Monday) it could be one of yours!
  3. I am super surprised how many people actually have never been to a drive in movie, especially because at $20 a carload (for TWO movies) it is actually cheaper than going to a regular movie, you can wear anything, and lets face it if you date a woman like me, the snacks will be cheaper because you never know what I will pull out my purse ....
  4. The Cleveland of Museum of Art is FREE and has some awesome areas for picnics
  5. The Cleveland Museum of Natural History is $8 per person for  spontaneous Wednesday night (I really like museums )
  6. While I appreciate a good Netflix and Chill' session, it has been done to death..... Give Bae an experience, add some pillows/blankets, snacks, cocktails etc the thought and effort will be appreciated
  7. Speaking of in home dates, take a trip to Five Below (or Michael's with coupon in hand of course ) and the grocery store to create a In Home Paint n' Sip
  8. Chopped at home- I love the Food Network show 'Chopped' and saw on Pinterest where people actually created dates out cooking dinner from random items out of Chopped style box ..How cute is that??? So clip some coupons, clean out the fridge, hit the grocery store and get to work!
  9. If you know cooking is not a strong point, Groupon has a Hibachi for Two for $13 in Cleveland....

So there is my list....
Now I can't say that this list was super easy however, I must admit $28 can go pretty far if you put your mind (and wallet) to it....

So yes $28 is enough to take a woman out on a date

Special Thanks to Shakita Shaw for inspiring this post

  1. I think 6,7,8 are REALLY good suggestions. Puts a spin on the whole complaint that people son't appreciate the chill vibe anymore. But chill vibe doesn't mean that it should be void of intentional effort!

The tale of two identities.

As children, most of us are raised to go to college, get good jobs and strive for greatness. As black children, most of us are raised to go to college, be better than 'them' so you can't be denied, strive for greatness and act accordingly in spaces that are not our own. As a lot of us grow up, we take heed to our lessons, aiming for success, entering spaces (and tax brackets) that weren't able to be accessed by our grandparents and sometimes our own parents, but struggle because we aren't taught the rules of 'the game' nor do we start out from a equal space than our colleagues.  Imagine taking your 5 year old child, telling them they have learn all the 1st grade through 6th grade material at once in a room full of 11 year olds who are already dealing with advance placement work... So we are forced to learn on our own and quickly, how to 'act' ,where to be authentic ourselves, which hairstyles to wear ,what to wear to off hours company events,

Chapter 6 .....Silvia

And just like that.... I had a date. The scramble began, I had to cram 6-8 weeks of recovery plans in a matter of 10 days.... Oh, and  I mention this is my final semester of my degree? So yea on top of working full time, trying to navigate through my interpersonal relationships,  and processing whatever is about to happen, I had to navigate what this could possibly look like for the last of my education. via GIPHY I was extremely emotional at this point and probably closer to my breaking point that what I honestly wanted to admit.......... I was scared. Scared of the pain, the recovery, the incision, hell how my body would look and feel because I had honestly just adjusted to the initial weight loss and of course dying. While both procedures are fairly simple, its rare that they are done together....So I had no clue what to expect but that I was going to be in pain... I got my tribe together for surgery/recovery plans, bought plenty of wine (they like

Chapter 5

So I go back to see the plastic surgeon days following the MRI.... She admits that the mass sitting there needed to be removed and it would be better in the long run for it to be gone for my desired results regarding her surgery. I asked her about doing the surgery with the other surgeon .... She starred at me And I starred at her... 'Well, we could do it, but just so you know this is going to a lot and this makes the possibility for infection higher'  (Now seeing how I have a HUGE mass on my uterus the size of a child, I would imagine this would hurt) '......But there is no sense in cutting twice, if our schedules can permit this we will do it' I looked up at her and asked 'Well can you get a picture of the skin you are going to cut? I want to see it...' She laughed and agreed. Now this is literally the best news I had heard in weeks.... However  we had a few variables..... a-The plastic surgeon made it painfully clea
